Island Hotel Room 36

We were very much looking forward to our return to Cedar Key and the beautiful Island Hotel. Now under new ownership, the hotel was pretty much as we remembered. The staff and owners were extremely plesant and helpful. We stayed in room 36 this time (last time in room 30). As before, we found the room to be very nice, clean and comfortable, slanted floors and all. One of our best memories from our first trip was a fabulous dinner in the hotel restaurant. This trip we were disappointed with our meal. Although, for the most part, still a good meal, we found the portions to be smaller, particularly the palm salad and steamed clams, and the fresh fish filet was a but overcooked. The big disappointment, however, was our oyster appetizer. We love good raw oysters, we have eaten them from coast to coast as well as abroad. Never have we had raw oysters served in any way but freshly shucked, on the half shell, on ice. On this trip the 6 local oysters for $20 were served out of the shell in what appeared to be a small cereal bowl. They could have been out of a jar, although our server assured us that they were fresh but shucked at the local source. Raw oysters can cause illness if not fresh and properly handled. Serving them in the half shell on ice is the proper way the tell the costumer that the food is freshly prepared and good to eat. We would strongly suggest that the restaurant either change the way they serve raw oysters or just not offer them as an appetizer. With this said, we will try to stay at the hotel the next time we go to Cedar Key but likely find another place for our evening meal.

Lovely facility. Just make sure you’ve got your travel toiletries with you. Positive: Great location. Cool little town. Negative: Shocked there were no toiletries in the room. Not a bar of soap or anything except toilet paper. And no TV in the room.

Our whole experience was wonderful. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to chillout. Positive: Everthing about this place was great. We enjoyed our short visit and are so glad that the island is getting back to operating since the the storm. Resilient group on that island. Negative: No TV but it was understandable
