A step back in time
Our trip to Cedar Key was very last minute but did not disappoint. The hotel is historic and a historic registered property. That said, expect original construction with modern plumbing and AC and electricity. Expect sloped floors. The building is old, so the insulation between neighboring rooms is non-existent. Locking the door to the room was always a double check as it is all actual keys. You will have to climb stairs to get to your room with luggage. If you travel like we do, that may be two trips to get your bag and room provisions up. The floors, ceiling, door frames are all original or modified just to update. People were shorter back in the day so expect to duck your head in door frames. The room was very clean and I think some of the nicest hotel towels of many recent hotel stays. Nice towels. I could not find a hair dryer and while soap and shampoo are provided, no lotion. Everyone seemed to abide by quiet hours so we did not have issues of not being able to sleep because of noise, but you can for sure hear your neighbors chatting. Check-in staff were wonderful. There is no TV, but there is WiFi. There is no in room fridge but there is access to ice from the restaurant and glasses for in room beverage consumption provided. The hotel is non-smoking however allows smoking on the wrap around porch on the second floor where the rooms are located. And this is my reason for 4 stars and not 5. It was disappointing to sit outside on a lovely day and then a smoking guest sits around the corner and you can't get upwind of the smoke. The porch is so inviting, but if you are a non-smoker and smoker decides to light up next you, nothing you can do but retreat to your room. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Neptune Bar. We didn't realize they also served food and would have likely eaten in the bar if we had known, but instead ate in the dining room. We had lovely service and good food. I know others commented on slow service. We did not have that issue at all. Great service in both the bar and restaurant. Overall, a charming truly historic property with enough modern improvements to make you comfortable.

A stay at the Island Hotel in Cedar Key feels like stepping back into Old Florida at its best. Weathered charm, creaky floors, and Gulf breezes set the tone. The staff were genuinely warm and attentive, the food outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and memorable. A perfect escape from the rush of modern Florida

Wonderful Historic Hotel Stay
Positive: The historic setting is amazing if you like that sort of thing, which I do. The room was small but comfortable. Staff was very friendly and welcoming
Negative: The bathroom in the room is very small and a bit awkwardly laid out but not a big deal.

Charming
Cute little place. Not exactly what we were expecting. I was looking forward to a bath in the claw foot tub,but you aren’t allowed to bathe, only shower,or it leaks. No tv in the room, the floors are very uneven and you can’t control the air conditioning. It was very chilly in our room. The front porch is right outside the window and people are quite loud. I really wanted to love Cedar Key,but it is soooo boring. Just not the place for us! Quite charming and cute if you just want to unplug . Hopefully in a few years business will pick up and stores will be open past 3-4:00. On an up side,Steamers was a good restaurant!

Island Hotel
Great place to stay. The beds were very comfortable. If you need anything extra the owners are onsite and are there to help. I had to ask a big favor of Bud and he took care of it like he had always know me. Very friendly but overwhelming professional. In the days of cooperate hotels on every corner go to Island Hotel and be treated like a guest/friend and not a number. The food was excellent. My wife and I will be back.
